The United States has kept an economic embargo [ban on trade] with Cuba since the revolution and subsequent communist government in the 1960s, but in recent weeks the U.S. government has been using increasing pressure on the Cuban government. This current blockade comes at a vulnerable time for the country and threatens widespread hunger and fuel shortage. “Concern, anger and hope simmer in Cuba after Trump calls for ‘imminent action’ against government,” the Associated Press reported March 18.
