“Authorities in the Indian capital, Delhi, have shut all primary schools for two days amid worsening levels of air pollution,” according to BBC Nov. 3, 2023. Delhi’s air quality has reached severe levels for the first time this season, with experts predicting further deterioration in the next two weeks. The city’s air becomes toxic in winter due to factors like crop burning, low wind speeds, and firecracker bursting. Delhi’s Chief Minister announced that all government and private primary schools would remain closed. The city has also implemented a ban on non-essential construction work and public transport services.
