Olivia Rodrigo released her album “GUTS” on Sept. 8. “GUTS” was her second studio album, as well as her second number one album. With the album already surpassing 200 million streams, it is well on the way to being her biggest hit yet. With these great statistics, the album has already gotten amazing recognition, including a blockbuster opening at Number 1 on Billboard’s chart and being named the fourth-largest opening week for any album in 2023 so far. Olivia Rodrigo is a very talented music artist and is a star on the rising.

Rodrigo already has two #1 albums at the young age of only 20 years old and shows no signs of slowing down any time soon. Rodrigo’s new album definitely lived up to people’s expectations after her first hit album, Sour, that came out in 2021, and her fame is only continuing to grow. Rodrigo released her 2024 Guts World Tour, where she plans to host 77 shows showing off her music.

“GUTS” is a pop-rock album that consists of 12 tracks that total 39 minutes of music. Rodrigo provided a very wide variety of songs in this album. Listening to the album for the first time truly puts listeners through an emotional roller coaster. From slower, more gut-wrenching songs to angry, teenage rage, this album truly has it all. One aspect that definitely makes this album so popular is how it has something to tailor to a lot of different people’s specific music tastes. There is at least one song that most people can get into and enjoy. Something that I really enjoy about this album is how relatable the songs are. Rodrigo is big on reflecting on her life and the struggles she encountered throughout her being a teenager. She focuses a lot on the fact that she is a 20-year-old girl who experienced things like every other girl her age.

Being freshly out of her teenage years, her lyrics are extremely relatable to teenagers, especially other teenage girls, which I feel is her main target audience. My personal favorite tracks of this album are tracks three, six, seven, eight, and 10. Personally, I enjoy these songs because they are most similar to her debut album, “Sour,” which I absolutely loved. These songs are generally more slower and sadder, but are still amazingly written and produced, although I do think that all of her songs were very well done. The only thing I dislike about this album is that some of the songs are more of a rock style. Most of her previous songs were more like the tracks mentioned above, so I am not used to Rodrigo making faster-paced songs. Overall, I think Olivia Rodrigo did an amazing job with her newest album, “GUTS.” She truly exceeded my expectations and the album deserves all of the praise it currently has, and is continuing to still get. Her first album set the bar very high and was going to be difficult to surpass, but the star managed to do it.
