From captivating Disney fanatics screens, to singing along in a sold out arena, the “Descendants/Zombies: Worlds Collide Tour” had it all. Growing up watching Disney’s “Descendants and Zombies” franchises, being able to sing along to childhood favorites on Aug. 13, at Rocket Arena was nothing short of a “dream come true.” The tour featured actors and artists from the new movies including: Kylie Cantrall, Freya Skye, Malachi Barton, Malia Baker, Dara Reneé, Joshua Colley and Mekonnen Knife. While these stars weren’t the original actors, they are just as inspiring and entertaining as Dove Cameron or Milo Manheim.
The arena was full of lifelong fans, as well as a new generation of enthusiasts. Everyone burst through the doors dressed head to toe as their favorite characters from the movies. I myself went as Evie and had my Mal beside me.
The show lasted approximately two hours, with an intermission in the middle of the show, leaving just enough time to get concessions, apparel and to use the restroom if needed. Songs were also broken up with videos from auditions, edits from the movies and even messages from original stars such as Meg Donnelly and Milo Manheim. Each break in the setlist gave just enough time to catch your breath and get ready to belt out the next set of songs.
The performance started with a captivating introduction to get the crowd amped up; before anyone could think, the curtains were opening and music started blasting. The first song on the setlist was made specifically for the tour, setting the bar high for the night. On top of the already perfect songs, each actor was dancing like professionals and interacting with the crowd. On top of the singers, there were also well known, incredibly talented back up dancers using props to really pull the entire performance together.
The entire show had a great selection of old and new songs to keep all age groups entertained. Parents were even up and dancing with their kids. From “Space Between” to “The Place To Be,” everyone was content and screaming.
Everyone in the arena had a great view at some point as well. Each song, the stars were moving around and at some points they ever relocated to a round stage. This gave people who were originally straining their eyes an opportunity to see the performers up close.
Each of the actors who release their own music also got the opportunity to perform their ballad and advertise their personal work. Kylie Cantrall sang songs like “Denim,” Freya Skye singing “Gold’s Gone,” Joshua Colley mesmerizing everyone with “I’m Gonna Remember This” and finally Dara Reneé performing “Imma Do It.”
When “Set it Off” began to blare through the speakers, everyone knew the best night of their lives was coming to an end. Everyone in the crowd gave it their all, trying to savor every last bit of the show. The night ended with a confetti cannon that fans could take home and save as a keepsake.
When the curtain closed and the show ended, I was left sitting in my seat trying to take in every last second of one of the best nights of my life. My throat felt like razor blades and it hurt to speak, but I wouldn’t have had it any other way. The entire night took me back to my childhood, making me feel like an eight year old singing along in front of my television again.
As I am writing this, it has been a month since the show and I still find myself playing the setlist from the show repeatedly on Spotify. Every once in a while, I also find myself sitting on a TikTok livestream reminiscing about the tour. I am still engaging with the star’s posts, hoping one day I find an announcement for a second leg of tour.
The “Descendants/Zombies: Worlds Collide Tour” was everything and more. As a lifelong fan myself, I couldn’t have asked for more out of a concert and I will be thinking about that night in the middle of August for years to come.
