Cozy and relaxed. Those are the feelings that fill the atmosphere as local customers pack into the Front Porch Cafe every second Saturday to enjoy music from other community members. Located in Hartville, the Front Porch Cafe hosts open mic nights for neighborhood talent to come and showcase their talents for others.
Senior Hailey Husk has been attending the open mic nights for a few months after discovering the local gem through a coworker. She discovered many people from around town come out and support these small artists, which was a bit of a surprise.
“I thought it was busier than expected and it was a good set up and the music was good,” Husk said.
The performers are able to play covers of songs or they can perform an original song if they want which is a great way to show off skills to the community and happens to be Husk’s favorite part.
“My favorite part was listening to the new music and the original songs coming from the performers. The food was a good plus too,” Husk said.
While the Front Porch Cafe may seem to just be a coffee shop, they have a wide variety of food options as well. Husk is well versed in the choices on the menu that don’t revolve around coffee that is available for any non-caffeine drinkers.
“The Front Porch Cafe is more food oriented. They have a full kitchen that makes actual food with a larger menu,” Husk said. “Their turkey panini with garlic aioli is [amazing].”
Regardless if you go for the food, coffee or music, the Front Porch Cafe is a hidden gem that offers an experience that won’t soon be forgotten.
“I would say it is a nice local event to get out of the house,” Husk said. “You get exposed to new people and music. It’s a good time to enjoy with friends.”
