I think that AI is such a broad topic that it’s really hard to say that you fully agree or disagree that it should be a thing. However, when you look at it from an ethics perspective, that’s when you can really get into a discussion.
I personally think that AI is okay. It just depends on what you’re using it for and how much you’re using it. For example, I think for small, simple things that AI is a quick way to get little bits of information quickly. It’s convenient for answering basic questions or generating rough ideas, especially when time is limited or when you’re looking for a starting point on a topic.
If you’re using AI to write entire papers for you or entire projects, that is where it becomes a problem. Not only does that cross ethical boundaries, but it also removes the opportunity for personal growth, learning, and original thought.
Another thing you have to take into consideration is how bad AI is for the environment. AI uses an insane amount of energy and water and also emits a large amount of greenhouse gases. These environmental impacts are often overlooked by the average user. All of these factors drive things like global warming and climate change, which, if you ask me, we already have a big enough problem with even without taking AI into account.
Overall, I think AI can be beneficial when used in moderation, but really shouldn’t be used for everyday life. It’s important to stay aware of both the ethical and environmental consequences as this technology becomes more embedded in our daily routines.
