Q: How do you balance school and practice for both football and soccer games as well as everything else in your life?
A: “It’s all about discipline and staying focused. I have to set my priorities and stick to them. For example, I try to make sure to get done with any school work before I get out, so then I can focus on sports.”
Q: What’s the hardest challenge you’ve had to overcome as an athlete?
A: “It’s definitely the time sacrifice it takes and sticking with it. I can’t do everything I want like I used to. I cannot hang out with my friends late anymore, I have to make sure I get enough sleep, eat a good diet, get lots of hydration and recovery is 24/7. It’s a constant grind and I have had to adjust my mindset to love the process.”
Q: How did it feel scoring the game winning goal against Walsh Jesuit?
A: “That was insane. I got off the counter-attack, ran with it and was able to slot it into the bottom left corner with a minute and a half left. For context, we beat them for the first time ever in program history and since they were coming off their state championship run, we were huge underdogs.”
Q: Do you think playing both has helped you avoid burnout, or does it make it harder?
A: “It’s definitely helped me avoid burnout. Switching between sports keeps things fresh and exciting and I am always thinking about improving my skills and technique in each sport.”
