As summer is approaching, it is important to have a fantastic book reading list. For me, books give me the opportunity to live in as many worlds as I can dream of. From thrillers to romance, there are genres that fit every mood and occasion. Even if you do not consider yourself a reader, there is always something for you. Here is a small list of books I’ve enjoyed reading and I hope you will too!
“The Summer of Broken Rules” is a perfect summertime book. The book follows character Meredith Fox as she goes to Martha’s Vineyard for her cousin Sarah’s wedding. Meredith and her family used to visit every summer before her sister tragically died. As she goes back to this house, she can’t stop memories of her sister from entering her mind. Although being back at this house reminds her of her sister, she tries her best to enjoy her time. One event Meredith was looking forward to was her family’s tradition of playing Assassin. During the game, she meets the groom’s step-brother, Wit. They decide to form an alliance and throughout the game, they become closer. For once, she is able to get her mind off of her sister’s death and have some fun. After a few days, she finds out that Wit had been hiding a secret from her. What does Meredith find out? I guess you will just have to read to find out. This book would be perfect to read on the beach or at a lake house. It has the best summer vibes and lovable characters.
After the book “Better Than the Movies” blew up on BookTok, fans wanted more cute romance stories. Two years later, author Lyn Painter came out with “Betting on You.” The book follows characters Bailey and Charlie. It is written as a dual point of view, so you get the thoughts of both characters. As Bailey is starting a new job at a water park, she realizes that she knows her coworker Charlie. It turns out that they met each other on a plane ride a year ago. Even though they are opposites in every way, they start to become friends at work. Eventually, Bailey has to go back to visit her mom. Her mom always reminds her that she doesn’t have a boyfriend, so Charlie agrees to be her “fake date.” As time goes on, she starts to have real feelings for Charlie. Although things seem to be going well, Bailey finds out that Charlie made a bet with his friend Theo. Is that the end of their friendship? Overall, this book was a fun and lighthearted read that kept me interested.

“If We Were Villains” has to be one of my favorite books of all time.
I was recommended it by my best friend, Emma, and am so grateful she did. This book is full of mystery, friendships and suspense. The book starts with the character Oliver, who, after serving a 10-year sentence, is being granted parole. The book then flashes back to the start of the story, where the true tale begins. You first meet seven friends who are all a part of the Theater Program at Dellecher Shakespeare Conservatory. As their last year of college approaches, they try out for the play, Julius Caesar. This play brings up tension between all of the characters. They start to turn against each other, and situations get heated. As their friendships are falling apart, all of the students go home for Winter Break. Shortly after they come back to the school, Richard suddenly dies. Was his death a coincidence, or did something more eerie happen to him? These questions prevented me from putting down the book. When I got to the end of the story, all of the details came together and answered all of my questions. I couldn’t recommend this book enough!
“A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder” has been a popular series, starting its popularity in 2019 when the first book came out. I read the first book in middle school with Molly and was hooked ever since. Every day during eighth grade, we would read it together, finishing within a few days. The first book follows Pip as she tries to uncover the truth about a murder mystery in her town that happened five years ago. It starts as a school project, but as time goes on, it becomes her main focus. The more evidence she finds, the closer she gets to the truth. Pip does not go through this alone, as she meets Ravi Singh. Ravi’s brother, Sal, was accused of the m u r d e r of his girlfriend five years prior, but there was no conclusive evidence against him. I loved every minute of reading this book. After the first book, fans wanted more stories full of mystery and suspense. Author Holly Jackson then came out with “Good Girls Bad Blood” and “As Good As Dead.” All three books star Pip Fitz-Amobi, but uncover different mysteries. While the first book remains my favorite, the second and third books in the series kept my interest. Be ready to get hooked.
