Located on Whipple Avenue in Canton Ohio, Dave’s Hot Chicken is the new hot place to go. Since opening day on October 10, 2024, the line has been out the door. With enormous hype built up around this chicken joint it is hard to find a time when it isn’t busy. Having had this in Michigan and Ohio, I’m here to give you my review on Dave’s Hot Chicken.
Dave’s has flavors ranging from No Spice to Reaper. So whether you are there for the spice or there for the chicken, then there are options for you. The chicken is served in two ways, a slider or a tender, with my personal favorite being the slider. If you’re not sure which one to choose from, order the number three to get one tender and one slider with a side of fries.
I’ve gotten the chance to try the fries, the oreo loaded shake, the mild sandwich, the medium sandwich and the extra hot tenders. Starting with the crinkle fries I would give them a 10/10, they have the perfect amount of seasoning in them combined with the perfect amount of crisp for the optimal flavoring and texture. The loaded oreo milkshake goes great with a spicier sandwich, as it counteracts the heat perfectly. My only critique on the shake is that it is a little too sweet, so with that being said I would give it an 8/10. Now onto the chicken, starting with the worst to best from what I’ve had I would rank mild the worst. If you’re looking for a good flavor with no spice then mild is a great choice, the flavor was really good but there was no heat to it. I’d have to give this a 7/10. Next up I’d put the extra hot, the flavor on this one was very good but it was way too spicy for me. Overall I’d rank it 8.5/10 but I’d definitely rate it higher if I could endure spicy food. My favorite flavor would have to be the medium. It was hot but not too hot and had a great flavor to it, giving it a 10/10.
I would rank Dave’s Hot Chicken a five-star. The chicken is comparable to Nashville chicken and the milkshakes are delicious. My only critique on the restaurant would be how long the wait time is. If you are going there for a sit-down meal or to quickly grab and go, then I would either order online or choose somewhere else to eat. It is definitely worth the time and money to wait in line to try this food. 5/5 Stars.
