What inspired you to start playing basketball, and how has that motivation evolved over the years?
I have always watched basketball games, and I started early and stuck with it since first grade. It has been motivating because I always remember how my younger self would think of me today and try my hardest.
How does it feel to be an underclassman playing at the varsity level, and what challenges have you faced in this role?
It is really nice to play with the varsity team because it is a higher level of competition and the team is enjoyable to play with. Sometimes it is a little nerve-wracking to play against older players but I just try to try my best.
What has been the biggest lesson you’ve learned from your older teammates on the varsity team?
I have learned to support one another in everything because it translates to better team chemistry on the court.
How do you see your role on the team, and how do you contribute to its success both on and off the court?
I always try to cheer for everyone and make sure that my energy is high. I also always try to hustle and never be outworked.
What aspect of your game are you most proud of, and what specific skills are you working to improve?
I am most proud of my defensive game but I am trying to improve my shooting skills.
What does a typical training or practice session look like for you, and how do you stay motivated to push yourself?
A typical practice is a lot of different skill work and spending time on all parts of the game to further understand it. I stay motivated to push through hard practices because I have a limited time to play, and I want to maximize my time that I have.
What has been the most memorable moment in your basketball career so far, and why?
The most memorable moment was in Kentucky for an AAU tournament and the facilities and hotel were so nice and our team had an amazing time there.
Is there a particular game or play that you feel define your abilities as a varsity player?
Games that require lots of defensive stops and pressure I can help in.
What are your short-term and long-term goals in basketball, and how do you plan to achieve them?
My short-term goals are to do my best the rest of this season and my long-term goals are to hopefully continue my basketball career in college.
Who are your biggest influences or role models in basketball, and how have they shaped your approach to the game?
My biggest role models are my dad and all of the coaches I have had over the years. They have always pushed me to my potential and improved my game both physically and mentally.
