If you thought the Pogues couldn’t get any more tangled up in their own mess, think again! Season four kicks off with the gang still reeling from the wild events of last season. Our favorite group of Pogues — John B., Sarah, Kiara, Pope, JJ and Cleo — are basking in the riches of El Dorado. As for the plot, the Pogues seem to have it made, with more than $1 million in gold and a plan to create “Poguelandia 2.0,” but this happy ensemble does not last long.
JJ, being his reckless self, spends most of the money during an auction while the Pogues buy back his home in hopes of fixing it up and opening a surf shop. After scraping by and getting the business afloat, JJ gambles the last of their gold away on a dirt bike race. With no money and bills to pay, the Pogues are forced to return to treasure hunting. After being hired to find a lost amulet owned by the wife of Blackbeard to ward off her ghost, the Pogues encounter other treasure hunters searching for the same piece. After a narrow escape while scuba diving, the Pogues return to find the man who hired them dead.
Suspicions are high, so the Pogues dig deeper into the hunt uncovering treasure and secrets. Episode five signs off with quite a cliffhanger, JJ Maybank isn’t a Maybank…?
After revealing that JJ is the son of a Kook he has a bit of a mental breakdown. The Pogues end up in Morocco in search of the very sought-after Blue Crown. I won’t spoil the ending, but it was definitely a shock. If you haven’t watched
this new season, I highly recommend you do. While watching this season, I was on the edge of my seat and fully invested, I haven’t watched this series in quite some time and I forgot how much I enjoyed it. I particularly liked the beginning of this season because they are back in OBX, for a large part of the last two seasons the Pogues were all over, so this season feels more like the first, which makes it feel more nostalgic. There’s one more season left to go, and I’m interested to see where the story goes knowing the ending of season four, but I guess we’ll have to wait and see.
