Shanghai hit by largest typhoon in 75 years; worldwide flooding continues. The third largest city and economic powerhouse Shanghai has been brought to a screeching halt by the most powerful typhoon since 1949, as of Sept. 16. All flights and most trains have been canceled to the city, causing the already troubled economy of China to worsen. Record rain this year has caused worldwide floods, including in eastern Europe. Global records continue to break as powerful storms become more frequent.
