It is where every NFL player in the past century has begun their career. The NFL draft has been the start of many NFL careers since 1936. There is immaculate talent from pick 1 to 224. The greatest NFL player of all time, Tom Brady, was selected as the 199th pick in 2000. This year’s NFL draft was held in Detroit, Michigan.
The number one pick was Caleb Williams, who was a quarterback for the USC Trojans and was selected by the Chicago Bears. He is the best quarterback prospect the league has seen in years. He is arriving at a Chicago Bears team that isn’t the Bears team of old. They have completely revamped their roster for their new franchise quarterback. The second pick was Jayden Daniels, a quarterback from Louisiana State University who the Washington Commanders picked. He is going into a situation where the offense has improved since last year. He won the Heisman last season, which is the award given to the best college football player of the season. He is a very mobile, accurate quarterback with some velocity issues. With the third pick of the NFL draft, the New England Patriots selected Drake Maye, a quarterback from North Carolina. Drake Maye has always received a comparison to Justin Herbert because of their similar size and arms. He is going into a Patriots team with a new head coach and an average offense.
The fourth pick of the NFL draft the Arizona Cardinals selected Marvin Harrison Jr., a wide receiver out of Ohio State. Harrison Jr. is the son of hall of fame wide receiver Marvin Harrison who played for the Indianapolis Colts. Marvin Harrison Jr. is the best wide receiver in the draft and will be teaming up with Heisman quarterback Kyler Murray. The fifth pick of the draft is the Los Angeles Chargers and they select Joe Alt, offensive tackle, Notre Dame. This is a safe pick for the Chargers and their new head coach, Jim Harbaugh. The sixth pick of the draft the Giants select Malik Nabers from LSU. This pick is a head-scratcher for me because they don’t have the best quarterback, and without a good quarterback, how good is a wide receiver?
The seventh pick of the draft is the Tennessee Titans who pick JC Latham, offensive tackle, Alabama. This isn’t a bad pick, but the Titans have holes all across their team. With the eighth pick, the Atlanta Falcons select Michael Penix Jr., quarterback, Washington. This pick was a head-scratcher across the league. The Falcons this offseason acquired quarterback Kirk Cousins, who is a skilled veteran quarterback. They could have picked many other players who could’ve filled their vacancies, but they decided to pick a player whose position was already taken on the team. The Chicago Bears selected Rome Odunze, wide receiver Washington with the ninth pick in the NFL draft. This gives their new franchise quarterback Caleb Williams a cornerstone wide receiver whom he can trust.
The next selection is the tenth pick, which the Minnesota Vikings traded for with the New York Jets to pick JJ McCarthy, quarterback, Michigan. This pick is a reach for me, especially considering how McCarthy’s college career went, relying on the run game. I just don’t think he can be a franchise quarterback in the NFL. The 11th pick of the NFL draft was the New York Jets, and they selected Olu Fashanu, offensive tackle, Penn State. This is a great pick to me because Aaron Rodgers is only getting older and it doesn’t hurt to give him more protection up front. In the 12th pick of the NFL draft, the Denver Broncos select Bo Nix, quarterback, Oregon. I do think this is a good pick regarding Denver’s situation at quarterback, and I love the competition for the starting job.
The 13th pick of the NFL draft the Las Vegas Raiders select Brock Bowers, tight end, Georgia. Brock Bowers is an athletic freak who can make a play if you get the ball in his hands, the only problem is, that the Raiders do not have a great quarterback that they can rely on, and they already have an efficient tight end in Michael Mayer. The 14th pick in the NFL draft the New Orleans Saints select Taliese Fuaga, offensive tackle, Oregon State. This is a great pick from the Saints because they needed pass protection badly after Terron Armstead left. With the 15th pick in the NFL draft, the Indianapolis Colts select Laiatu Latu, edge, UCLA. This pick has great value because he could have realistically gone top ten. The talent is off the charts. He can get off the edge consistently and disrupt the backfield. The 2024 NFL draft has a loaded amount of talented players that we will see in the distant future.
