“Police in Ecuador say they have arrested an alleged leader of Los Lobos, a powerful criminal organisation specialised in drug trafficking,” according to BBC Nov. 27, 2023. A man named Jaime S.C. was shot and injured by gang members of the powerful criminal organization Los Lobos (The Wolves), which is believed to have links to the Mexican Jalisco New Generation cartel. The gang, which has 8,000 members, is accused of instigating some of Ecuador’s bloodiest prison riots and smuggling cocaine from Colombia to the US and Europe. Ecuador’s murder rate has quadrupled between 2018 and 2022. Daniel Noboa, the new president, has promised to tackle drug trafficking and break the gang’s stranglehold.
