“Russia says hurricane winds and heavy flooding have left about 1.9 million people without power in the south, referring also to Ukrainian regions illegally annexed by Moscow,” according to BBC Nov. 27, 2023. Russia’s energy ministry has reported that Dagestan, Krasnodar, Rostov, Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, and Crimea have been the worst hit, with at least four storm-related deaths reported. 2,019 villages and towns in Ukraine have no power after snowstorms, while Moldova, Georgia, and Bulgaria are also affected. In Russia’s Black Sea port of Sochi, waves have battered the city’s seafront, and a cargo vessel with 21 crews ran aground near Anapa. In Ukraine’s southern Crimea peninsula, Moscow-installed officials reported flooding in coastal areas, and a state of emergency is in place in several municipalities. Over 1,500 rescuers are deployed across Ukraine in a massive clean-up operation. Russia is also preparing massive rocket and drone strikes on Ukraine’s power grid and other critical infrastructure, with Russia’s largest drone strike on Kyiv last Saturday.
