“Racism towards people of African descent remains ‘relentless and pervasive’, the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA) has said,” according to BBC, Oct. 25, 2023. Since the 2018 poll, the proportion of Germans reporting discrimination has nearly doubled. The results need to serve as “a wake-up call,” according to the EU agency. The report emphasizes the “alarming lack of progress” made towards eliminating racism, from challenges finding job and housing to enduring harassment that leaves victims feeling traumatized, by comparing the results of this year’s poll to those performed five years ago. The FRA seeks to guarantee everyone in the EU equal treatment and dignity.
