“At least 10 guards are being held hostage by inmates at Paraguay’s largest prison, police in the South American country have confirmed, according to BBC oct. 11, 2023. The inmates have made three demands in exchange for releasing the hostages: a guarantee of police not storming the jail, a signed document preventing reprisals, and a promise that the overcrowded jail will reopen for new inmates. Paraguay’s justice minister, Ángel Barchini, has announced a plan to regain control of Tacumbú from the Rotela Clan.
